Brig. Gen. (Ret) Cristiano Chiti was born in Florence in 1963. After having served as Carabiniere, he attended the regular Army Academy courses, getting the commission as First Lieutenant of the Alpini Troops in 1989. Since 1990 to 1997 he served in the 7th and 8th Alpini rgt as Platoon/Company Commander and Logistic SO. After having attended the 124th Staff course, he moved to the 5th rgt in Vipiteno where he served firstly as Chief S4, then as Chief S3/S2 and furthermore as MORBEGNO Alpini Battalion Commander as well, in 2002/2003.
Since 1997 to 2003, he took part at three different missions in the frame of NATO Operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (IFOR / SFOR) , all with multi-national Unit (Div. "Salamandre") as a CIMIC officer and with a national Units as Chief S2 Information Cell and then as Commander of Task Force MORBEGNO. From 2004 to 2006 served in the Mountain Troops HQ as G7 Training officer and, after having attended the 9th ISSMI (War College) in 2007, he moved to the DGS in Rome where served as Chief of NATO Section within the Policy & Plans Division, for four year. In 2011, he was assigned to 2¡ Alpini Regiment where served as Commander till 2013. With this glorious Unit and his Flag, he leaded the Task Force South East in Bakwa District (AFG) in the ISAF frame. In that contest, notwithstanding the huge number of explosive attacks and ambushes suffered by his Unit, he successfully transited FOB LAVAREDO to Afghan National Army on 15th of December 2012.
In 2013 he was assigned to NRDC TUR (Istanbul) where worked, as ACOS G5/J5, till September 2017 when he moved to NRDC ITA to work still as ACOS J5 for one year before being assigned to NRDC Support Brigade as Deputy Commander in August 2018. In addition, since October 2018 till June 2019, he also led, as Commander, the Task Force "Lombardia e Trentino Alto Adige" within the "Strade Sicure" Operation.
In November 2020 he moved to the "auxiliary" Officer category with the rank of Brigadier General.
Early 2023, he chaired a Rank Advancement Commission at the Army Selection Center in Foligno (Umbria).
He got a degree and the subsequent master, in "Strategic ScienceÓ by University of Turin, a master in International strategic-military studies by LUISS University and other three by UniCusano: "International Counter-terrorism", Middle East Analyst" and Criminology and Security.
He has been certified as criminologist by the National Association of Criminologists and Criminalists in 2022.
He has been nominated Knight of Republic Merit Order by the Chief of State, in 2011.
